Bible Passage: 2 Kings 2:11-15
“And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.:†- 2 Kings 2:11-12
Looking at the bible critically, the chariot rode by Joseph belonged to Pharaoh (Genesis 41:43); the enemies of Israel also rode chariot (Exodus 14:6-9); in other words, chariots can be of fire and there can be another one; but our own chariot will be chariot of fire. Prophet Elijah was the first man and probably the last man who rode on fire during his time. Fire has a number of significances;
• Fire shows the presence of Holy Spirit…that pain you experience whether medical or spiritual, that arrow that moves from one part of the body to the other will be consumed. (Acts 2:3)
• Fire is a sign of sacrifice and acceptance…when you give an acceptable sacrifice, fire falls on it. I pray that the fire of God will not go down on the altar of your destiny. (Leviticus 6:13)
• Fire is guide for Gods people. Maybe you have been wandering; walking round in circles the fire of God will bring light to your path. (Exodus 13:21)
• Fire is an agent of purification and illumination. (Malachi 3:2)
There are different types of fire in the bible:
• Strange fire. You can't afford to bring something profane to the presence of God. (Numbers 3:4)
• Fire to shame to enemies. I pray that the fire of God will begin to shame your enemies. (2 Kings 1:10)
• Fire of deliverance through Moses. (Exodus 3:2)
• Fire of victory for Gideon. (Judges 6:21)
• Fire to guide which is called pillar of fire. (Exodus 13:21)
• Fire of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:3-4)
How does the fire operate?
• The Holy Ghost fire is to crush Satan’s rebellion. Satan’s rebellion against your destiny as it was crushed in the bible times will be crushed in your life today. (Revelation 20:9-10)
• Destroys what doesn't make God happy. (Genesis 19:24)
• Fire operates to refine. (Zechariah 13:9)
• Fire serves as a fence of protection upon His people. (Zechariah 2:9)
• Fire is signs of answers to prayer. (1 Kings 18:24)
Fire is very significant. The fire of God does the work for your victory. (Joshua 10:8-11)
When talking about chariot of fire, we are referring to God’s instrument of war, God’s means of transportation to carry his children above their enemies and God’s instrument of honoring his beloved children.
What is the power of the chariot of fire? 2 Kings 1:12
• Chariot of fire serves as a power of separation of God’s children from evil.
• Chariot of fire is divine power that hides those who ride on it. It will hide evil arrow from you.
• Chariot of fire answers those that call upon God to ask Him...the mantle fell the moment Elisha cried. Remember if you ask anything in the name of Jesus it will be done. (John 16:24, 2 Kings 2:13)
• Chariot of fire is a power that places you above your peers. (2 Kings 2:5)
Why demons are messing with us is because we are not full of fire, but when we are full of the fire of the Holy Ghost, they will bow under it.
Perhaps you are not yet born again, then you need to surrender to Him who is called the fire Himself; the consuming fire, our Lord Jesus Christ. This is not to say you are not close to the pastor, but remember that Gehazi was close to Elisha but he carried leprosy but that won’t be your story. I’m not also saying that you don’t speak in tongues, but the bible says “Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.â€, so if you want to surrender your life to God, I welcome you to do so now.
