BE A COMMITTED CHRISTIAN

By Pastor Segun Doherty

Bible Passage: John 4:30-38

“Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work ” John 4:34

This bible passage is about the commitment of Jesus to His call, which I term commitment to the core. There are things in our dispensation that can make us not to be committed to God. Jesus knew the reason He was born, hence He was committed to that call. His calling was the driving factor of everything He did while on earth (John 9:4-5). He knew his calling, why He came and was committed to it.

What is commitment?

Commitment means faithfulness to a cause. It is the state of being dedicated and unchangeable to a cause you believe in. When you make a commitment, you are creating a relationship with God. When you are committed to the things of God, your curse becomes His cause; He takes personal responsibility about everything in your life. God will go out of His way to fight your battle, bless you and make you who He wants you to become (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus knew why He came but do you know why you are saved? God saved you so that you can in turn be committed to His cause on earth. It’s a dangerous thing to be saved and not to have active service or stewardship in your local church. Your face may not be known where your seed of commitment has not been know. God is not committed to people who are not in active service for Him even if they are saved. You have been bought at a price, therefore God expects total commitment from you. You are saved to serve. (John 2:17, Luke 19:9-10). God is calling us to a place of commitment and faithfulness in His service.

Characteristics of Committed Christians

1. They are compelled by love to do the work of the master. Is love your driving force for serving God? Or you just want your face to be known? (Acts 14:19)
2. Their life means nothing to them. (Philippians 1:20-21)
3. They are willing to suffer for Him. (Matthew 10: 38-39; 16:24, Luke 9:23, Romans 8:35-39)

Don’t let your commitment be when God has done something good, He is counting on you! So, I ask do you know why you are created?. Are you working towards it?
