ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR SOURCE

By Pastor Segun Doherty

“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” - Deuteronomy 8:18

The source of a thing sustains it. When you were very little and in the journey of life, then you suddenly become big; when you were poor and suddenly become able to afford three square meals; when you were nobody and suddenly you become somebody; chances are it is very easy for you as a person to forget where you are coming from. Children of God, who is our source? God! We that were wearing made in "aba" but now wear designer’s suit, it is very easy to forget the horrible old life and days. The times when we call on God desperately, and as soon as He answers and brings us to our feet, we stop counting our blessings and start counting our money; we forget where He brought us from, we need to repent. God has sent me here today to tell you to always remember your source.

In the book of Deuteronomy, God reminded His people not to overlook His goodness to them which He had done. If God was telling them then, then the same applies to you and me. Has God been good to you? Always remember your source. John 1:3

“for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring
.” - Acts 17:28

If you forget your source you are killing yourself. Because anyone that forgets his source will be forgotten. I pray you will not be forgotten. Many get dazzled by their success that they forget where they are coming from, we become caught up in our blessings so much that we fail to acknowledge God, the one who bless us. Always remember your source, God emphasized this even for the Israelites. He told them that when they become prosperous and their account is full of the currency of the world, not to become proud and forget the Lord who brought them out of slavery.

It is a dangerous thing to forget where you are coming from. God does not condemn your success, as a matter of fact each time you go through pain He is always there with you (Isaiah 43:2), but He condemns arrogance. As you rise in life, don't forget to take care of your parents. Do not forget those who contributed meaningfully and significantly to your success. Don’t forget your source, as God was telling the Israelites not to forget the Lord who gave you power to be where you are and is still taking you far. The moment some people begin to have a taste of success, they rubbish all their leaders, but they have forgotten that a child may have as many cloths as the adult but they can’t have as many rags. Don't rob the hand that feed you when you were hungry (Psalms 62:9)

Do not forget that person that cloth you when you were naked. Above all, don’t forget Jesus that died for you. How many times have your praised Him, worshipped Him or witnessed about His goodness to somebody?

What should we do then? Go out from here today, look back the memory lane and do the following:
1. Remember them in your prayers
2. Appreciate them with your gifts
3. You owe the gratitude
“Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” Proverbs 17:13

As we continue the journey of destiny, please don’t forget your God. Your matter matters to Him, that’s what took him to the cross of Calvary so that your matter can be addressed but many of us after experiencing the goodness of God become distracted. Distraction is the side attraction assigned by the devil for your detention. I pray you will not be detained.
